Waste is the enemy of good business. It costs money and wastes resources. It is what every good business wants to do away with. There are different kinds of waste, some are less significant than others, however in the end, they all put a drain on your company. Waste can be defined as any practice or activity that doesn’t bring value to the end users needs. In other words, if it does not help to bring value to the customer, than it is waste.

Waste can be witnessed in various activities and in varying degrees, but there are some constants to each. They will all cost money that the company could use to better purposes. Sometimes waste doesn’t seem like waste initially, for example when the company is making products to store for future shipments. But overproduction can be a waste in itself, especially when there's a faster than necessary pace being kept up on the production floor
First you are utilizing materials that you don’t need to yet, which means that you had to pay for them much sooner than necessary and second there has to be a place to store the excess inventory. Another waste is waiting. This is waiting around for the next step of the process. This can be labor that's waiting for their turn to finish a process because the parts they need aren't ready or it can mean the machines are not operating because the material is not ready.
